17 August 2012: The Federal Government are inviting public comments on the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill 2012 (Cth), draft legislation to implement the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Protocol. The Protocol helps developing nations tackle diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS with affordable generic medicines from other countries.
The draft Bill also amends plant breeder’s rights (PBR). PBR owners can take action against infringers in the Federal Magistrates Court more quickly and simply than in the Federal Court.
The deadline for submissions is 5.00pm 1 October 2012. Submissions should be sent to MDB-Bill2012@ipaustralia.gov.au or contact Ms Terry Moore on 02 6283 2632 for more information.
