NBN satellite ground station contracts signed

25 October 2012:  Senator Stephen Conroy has announced the signing by NBN Co of ten construction contracts for National Broadband Network (NBN) satellite ground stations.

Construction of the ground stations is due to commence early next year, and be completed in 2013.  The locations of eight out of the ten ground stations have been announced.  These locations are:

  • Moonyoonooka (near Geraldton), Brown Range (near Carnarvon), and Binduli (near Kalgoorlie) in Western Australia;
  • Bourke, and Woolooma (near Merimbula);
  • Geeveston in Tasmania;
  • Ceduna in South Australia; and
  • Roma in Queensland

“Contracts worth a total of around $180 million have been awarded to Perkins (WA) Pty Ltd to build four satellite ground stations in Western Australia; and Cockram Corporation Pty Ltd for six ground stations in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania,” Senator Conroy said.
