6 September 2012: The Australian Communications and Media Authority has issued formal warnings to Aussie Web Tech Pty Ltd and MyCRA Pty Ltd for failing to comply with the Spam Act.
Investigations by the ACMA into the two unrelated businesses found that both had breached the Spam Act by sending marketing messages which did not include information about how a recipient could unsubscribe.
The Spam Act requires that e-marketing messages include a method for recipients to opt out of receiving further messages. The ACMA’s most recent e-marketing blog looks at this simple but critical obligation.
You can find more information on these warnings from the ACMA at http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_600036 and read more about opt-out obligations in marketing emails at http://engage.acma.gov.au/category/e-marketing-blog/
