2GB breaches privacy provisions of code

30 October 2012:  The licensee of Sydney Radio station 2GB, Harbour Radio Pty Ltd, has been found in breach of the the privacy provisions of the Commercial Radio Australia Codes of Practice Act 2011.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) found that the broadcast on the Ray Hadley Morning Show on 25 November 2011 of a persons full name, street address and suburb of residence was a broadcast of material relating to a person’s personal or private affairs.

The broadcast of these details without the persons consent was a breach of the privacy protections under the code.  The ACMA has elected to not take any enforcement action as it has determined that 2GB’s response in training its staff and discussing with them the incident and ACMA’s finding, is commensurate to the breach.
